CDC style UV light trap with black light set up for studying insects. The unit has been tested against various insect species and is capable of catching Aedes mosquito in doors. The unit has been constructed keeping in view of field and rugged conditions. The fan assembly is not visible outside which is cased in a ABS shield casing as shown in the picture. CDC Miniature Ligtht Trap with Incadescent Bulb HSN: 8479 
The CDC Miniature Light Trap was developed by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC, USA) to provide a reliable and portable sampling device for the collection of mosquitoes and sand flies. Since the trap has been introduced way back in the 1960s, it has become a standard mosquito collection equipment for both surveillance and interpretation of the effects of vector control interventions. The mosquitoes get attracted to the light and trapped in collection bag provided due to downward suction of the air. The fan provided suck the air downward which runs at 0.2amps/hr at 6v.

Recommendations:
1. The trap can be used to work with all kinds of mosquitoes. The trap has been tested in house for its ability to catch Aedes mosquitoes. We have found 90% of total count released were captured by the trap when installed 5 ft from about the ground. 

2. Each trap should have atleast 4 batteries and one rated auto-cutoff charger; Two batteries are field installed and two other for using next day.

3. Carry the battery separately apart from the other trap components for safety. The battery might damage or broke other trap parts when carried together in the event of accidental fall of the trap to the ground.

Caution:

1. Never charge the batteries with wrong volts or amps power chargers. Always, use the charger within the rated power mentioned on batteries

 

2. Never drop the batteries or the bag containing the batteries as it can damage the seal inside the batteries that separates +/- poles.  When wrong power used or damaged batteries charged, a burning smell emits from the batteries. Dispose such batteries and do not use them further

Description:

The Biogents EVS-style is a newly engineered modular trapping system. The trap is identical in all aspects to the BG-CDC or BG-Pro trap except that it does not have a shield plate on top like CDC light trap. Instead, a metal ring is provided to directly hand to the ceiling to install the trap. Also the trap can be supplemented with dry ice for CO2.

The photoswitch will automatically starts the trap when dusk and poweroff when dawn. The light sensitivity can be adjusted based on the requirement. This assembly is extremely useful when traps need to be installed continuously several days in the field. Four or 5 batteries series connected can power the unit for a straight 5 days and observations can be made once a week.

Fay-Prince trap (FPT) was developed in the late 1960s as a daytime visual trap for male Ae. aegypti. Since then, its use has been expanded into the trapping of female Ae. aegypti, Aedes albopictus Skuse, other Ae. spp., and Culex spp. 
The insectPRO Omni-Directional CDC Fay-Prince Trap is a replica model of FPT traps field tested during 1960s. The addition of dry ice which involves CO2 gas, results in significant increases in the number and diversity of mosquitoes caught and makes the location of the trap less critical as mosquitoes senses the visual cues with gases.. Used in the afternoon, it allows the collection of diurnally active mosquitoes that are not normally attracted to light traps.

The trap power on/off can be regulated based on real-time controller attached to the trap's unit. A total of 5 variations per day can be set up and is extremely useful to study bionomics of vectors. For example, the trap can be modulated to switch on by 6pm and off by 8pm. Similarly, when four traps installed in the field with varied time on/off, the next day morning recordings will provide insites in to peak activities of insect species.
